“Hope He Hasn’t Learnt Anything From Me”: Lando Norris & Oscar Piastri Engage in Epic Banter Over Season Review

Now, the 2023 F1 season has finally come to an end. While we are waiting for another 96 days for the next race in Bahrain, it is now the time of the year when drivers visit the season back and review everything as a whole. As usual, like with other sports, some teams would be more happy than others. McLaren for one, would be one of the happiest teams on the grid, given how they started the season.
They had two disappointing seasons with Daniel Ricciardo back-to-back, and coming to this season, they started a race with a DNF for their new signing Oscar Piastri. In fact, their first half of the season was borderline disastrous. However, thanks to some upgrades, their performances turned around, and at the end of the season, they managed to secure fourth place in the constructors’ championship. Reviewing the season, the driver pairing of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri entered into some fun banter post-Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Going into the season, the Woking-based team, which had two of the three fastest pitstops this season, had one rookie in the form of Oscar Piastri, who would have wanted to learn as much as possible within this season. Piastri definitely delivered for the Papayas, as many fans believe that this has to be the best rookie season anyone had since Hamilton’s debut in 2007. Norris, commenting on this, stated, “We worked well together, and I hope he learnt from me…[at the same time,] I [also] hope he hasn’t learnt anything from me [laughs]“
Norris: We worked well together, and I hope he learnt from me… I hope he hasn't learnt anything from me [laughs]
Piastri: I've learnt the good and the bad [laughs]. It's been a good benchmark to have, and we have pretty similar comments on the car.

Oscar also didn’t want to miss out on the banter. He immediately replied with a witty one-liner, before offering some insight into his season. “I’ve learnt the good and the bad [laughs]. It’s been a good benchmark to have, and we have pretty similar comments on the car.”

McLaren’s amazing 2nd half of the 2023 season
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have both put on some amazing performances. Oscar won his first-ever win in any format in Formula One, during the Qatar sprint weekend. Lando managed to string together a lot of P2 performances, 6 of them in fact (incidentally, 3 more than Checo’s 3), closing the gap to Aston Martin which was deadly quick at the start of the season.
In the meanwhile, Aston Martin seemed to fall off a cliff in terms of race performance. Their struggles, along with McLaren’s magical resurgence, the season is nothing short of miraculous.

Given where they were at the start of the season, McLaren would take these results with open arms and eyes closed. Hopefully, for next year, they bring in more updates and begin posing a serious threat to Red Bull.
