Liberty Media supposedly asked Red Bull to sign a competitive driver alongside Max Verstappen for 2023. Lando Norris was one of the names that popped up and since then it’s all been about Red Bull move speculations. Now, Zak Brown breaks silence on the brewing discontent as Lando Norris’ Red Bull drama takes a major setback. What did Brown say?

Lando Norris signed a contract extension last year with McLaren. The new contract will see him race with the Papaya team up until the end of the 2025 F1 season. The way the season started for McLaren, many would’ve thought that the Brit made a mistake. Nonetheless, their comeback has been spectacular with the Papaya army’s hopes rejuvenated. Yet, speculations suggest that Norris is keen on making a move to Red Bull.

Earlier, Norris was asked about partnering up with Max Verstappen, to which he replied that he would love to be the Dutchman’s teammate. The comments sent the whole F1 paddock spinning. However, time and time again, Zak Brown has had to come out to make a statement about Norris’ contract. This weekend was no different as the McLaren CEO explained how everyone is churning the rumor mill after Norris answered a simple question.

According to @TheMcLarenZone’s tweet, Zak Brown said, “I think everyone else is stirring it. I think everyone has picked up a question he answered and stirred it up a bit but that’s Formula 1.”

Zak Brown has time and time again also assured that Norris’ contract doesn’t have an exit clause and that he will stay with McLaren no matter what happens.

Zak Brown on Lando Norris’ contract not having any exit clauses

A longer contract like Lando Norris’s is always a double-edged sword. If the team is doing well, then the reward is good, but if the team is slacking, then the driver is stuck. Usually, to avoid such situations, there’s a performance exit clause in the contracts. However, Zak Brown revealed that Norris’ contract has no exit clauses and will only move teams once his contract is over.

According to Sky Sports, Zak Brown said, “He has zero exit clauses. Ultimately, when his contract is next up, if we are not performing and he doesn’t feel he can win races and can compete for the championship, then I think anybody, driver or team member for that matter [would be considering leaving], we are all here to win.”
