Mercedes Boss Shoulders Major Responsibility Over Lewis Hamilton F1 Loss: “Should Have Won the 8th Title…”

Do you think Lewis Hamilton deserved last year’s eighth title? Well, at least his team boss, Toto Wolff, does. The Mercedes giants have won 8 constructors together, providing Hamilton with the chance to become a seven-time world champion. They’ve dominated the sport for the longest time now, only being challenged last year and this year.
Mercedes is currently the third fastest team on the grid. This has visibly irritated them throughout the season, as it did Hamilton who has won no races this year. What’s worse is the part that even though the team looked for revenge on Max Verstappen and Red Bull from last year, Hamilton is farther behind this season and still doesn’t have the fastest car.

However, Wolff feels that success will eventually come back to the Silver Arrows. He said, “I think Hamilton should have had an eighth world title last year, everybody knows that. But now we need to make a car that puts him in the position of going for that eighth title and that is fundamentally my responsibility.”

This is arguably true, given Hamilton was actually on his way to an eighth title. The rest is history as a sudden rule change by Michael Masi spoiled the Briton’s party.

Though Verstappen and co. did win, the steward calls were marked a “human error” months later. As a result of which, the title has since remained controversial despite sitting with Verstappen.

Wolff further revealed that he’s planning long-term with the current Mercedes problems. Even though the team has suffered mercilessly throughout the year, he believes that these blips are important.
Currently rivals Red Bull leads the tables of all forms, but Wolff hinted at an indirect warning. Saying sentences like “karma exists” and “We did it the right way“, clearly depicted the Austrian’s disappointment with what happened last year.
