In a recent video for Sky Sports, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff opened up on a variety of subjects. Wolff spoke about  life as a Mercedes team principal and how he is as an investor. As it turns out, the Austrian is fairly new to the F1 world, compared to his rival counterparts.

Admittedly, he didn’t meet much success as a racing driver, but that’s hasn’t necessarily translated into his managerial career. When he spoke about the meaning of success in F1, he said, “One day, if I were to stop what I’m doing, then I thinks its the moment to say ‘okay that was successful’. Because, suddenly we have a bad year and the magic is gone.”

“So maybe where the stars align for me, that I was a young racing driver that didn’t have the means. I didn’t have the pace to make it as a racing driver”

As a result, he turned to the financial world and began investing heavily. He stressed on the need to assemble the right people and the right driver to extract the best out of a team. Wolff also spoke about using all that he has learned in the last 20 years, and putting it to effective use.

What else did the Mercedes team boss say?

He assured that he places immense trust in Lewis Hamilton, and the 6-time world champion feels the same way. This is because, if they didn’t, they would eventually face a situation where such trust gets strained. Fortunately, if they don’t have the same targets, they talk it out and find a middle ground. At the end of the day, the two have faith in each other and know that they are ‘in this together’.

Fortunately for everyone, it won’t be long before the 2020 F1 season finally begins. On July 5th, the 2020 season looks likely to kick off with the Austrian Grand Prix.
