The rise of F1 is no less than a fairy tale. The constant growth of the sport over the last few years has attracted a lot of big names to the sport. German auto giants Porsche were close to joining the glamorous sport until their deal with Red Bull collapsed. Moreover, Andretti Global is also in the running to enter the paddock.
However, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes that Porsche will eventually enter F1 sooner rather than later. The Austrian claims that Porsche will be a ‘great addition’ to F1 and that they still have time to enter the sport.

Wolff said, “I don’t think you have to register before October 15 if you want to join the championship a year later. Definitely, it would be a great thing for Formula 1, if Porsche were to join the championship.” (Translated from google translate)
“They just need to figure out if there is another interesting project or if they can buy a team. Maybe it won’t be in 2026, maybe it will be in 2027 or 2028, but it would be a great addition to the grid.”
The Austrian’s comments come as a surprise after he claimed that he opposed Andretti Global’s entry to F1 last month. Toto claimed that large multinationals must not be allowed entry and only teams that are capable of contributing to the commercial value must join the grid.

“It is a matter of understanding really, not only the ones that have a bigger or louder voice, but there will be other people, because Andretti was quite vocal about his request. There are others that have done the same in a different way.
“So the evaluation is not only with Andretti, the evaluation is with others that are respecting the silence on trying to be more productive, on proving who they are, and respecting the protocol we have put in place.

“As I always said, I don’t believe that it is today the problem of having more teams that will give more value to the championship. But there is a protocol that has to be fulfilled, and everyone, Andretti included, is following that. So this is the situation today.”

It’s hard to see an 11th team getting an entry to the grid in the 11th hour. Moreover, the new Power Unit regulations kick off in 2026, so teams are likely to wait around and enter in the future. Whether Porsche or Andretti get an F1 entry remains to be seen.
