F1 Community has been going Gaga over how Lewis Hamilton’s Canadian GP rave was sabotaged by Mercedes and how the 7X champ deserved the podium. On one side, Hamilton has been vocal about the tire problems from the qualifying that put him on the backfoot whereas Mercedes, on the other hand, made the right call to put Hamilton on fresher tires during the safety car. Amid all these sabotage claims, Peter Windsor has come to explain the scenario while highlighting the annoyed state Lewis Hamilton might have been in.

Lewis Hamilton after the Canadian GP, suggested that he could’ve been in the fight for the win if he had qualified better and that being stuck behind Fernando Alonso for the first stint took away any opportunity of fighting the leaders. When asked about the qualifying issue, he revealed that the tires felt good in practice, but during the qualifying runs, the tires were a few degrees off the optimal temperatures as they came out of the blanket.

People have also been raving about the fact that Mercedes put on the hard tires on Hamilton’s car during the late safety car pitstop. Amid all this, Peter Windsor on his YouTube live was advised, “I don’t think Lewis is lying or Mercedes are sabotaging him. But I think he’s trying to rationalize a reason why he might be slowing down”, to which he replied that it’s just George Russell being a faster driver on a single lap.

Windsor said, “There is no way in the world he is as quick as George. Why do you think he didn’t want George in the car? George over one lap, a really difficult edgy lap in a difficult car, George was going to be quicker because he has much more on the line than Lewis. Lewis doesn’t need to be on the line anymore. He’s proved it. What he needs to do is win GPs which he can still do, for sure.”

He further explained how Hamilton must be in an irritated state when being questioned about being beaten by Russell in qualifying as Peter Windsor added, “He [Lewis Hamilton] hates it when he’s out-qualified and that’s the moment not to talk to him because his mind should then be focused on the race. But if you keep going on about qualifying, it’s going to annoy him and he’s going to keep thinking about it.”

But what did Lewis Hamilton have to say about his Canadian GP?

After the Canadian GP ended, Toto Wolff tried consoling Lewis Hamilton on the radio, asking the 7X to look positive that the car is competitive and is at the front once again. Lewis Hamilton, frustrated by the result, did not reply and shook his head in disbelief. When Hamilton approached Lawrence Barretto in the media pen, the 7X champ was asked if he enjoyed himself out on the track and that it looked like he did from outside.

Speaking with Lawrence Barretto, Lewis Hamilton said, “It wasn’t a positive race for me. It felt like one of my worst drives that I’ve had. Bits of good speed at some points, but ultimately a really poor weekend for myself. Qualifying, put myself back there then I was stuck behind Fernando for a long long time as you would expect. Then I lost a lot of ground, went off. But anyways, the positive is the car is progressing and moving forwards. I think if I qualified the way I should’ve, I would’ve been competing for the win. So that’s why it’s quite frustrating.”
