James Allison earlier promised upgrades to improve the balance of the car at the Baku GP. He also suggested that all three races prior to Baku received upgrades and Baku would be no different. Suspension upgrades to improve drivability were expected. However, that was not the case, as suggested by a Tweet by Toto Wolff. Toto Wolff suggested that Mercedes did not put any upgrades on the car and that the upgrade will come to Imola only. So till then, they have to work with this package.
According to the Tweet, Toto Wolff said, “We didn’t put any upgrades on the car, that comes for Imola, so we just gotta do the best we can with that package.”
The fans were quick to express the backlash, as Mercedes did not make any improvement. The Toto Wolff’s status update on the upgrades infuriated the fans as they blamed Mercedes for getting their hopes high by talking about upgrades and then giving a below-par performance during the qualifying.

Fans took to Twitter to express their concern and anger at how Mercedes promised one thing and delivered the other. After the shameful performance and news of not any upgrades before Imola came out, many fans lost any sort of hope before Emilia Romagna GP. Some fans suggested that the season starts in Imola for Mercedes whereas others suggested that the Imola upgrade will actually make the car go slower. Some even went on to say that they deport the Mercedes crew to China if the upgrades don’t work.

There was one eagle-eyed person who spotted some upgrades on the Mercedes but suggested that they were just little teaks and nothing major in terms of performance. What effect the Imola Upgrades have is yet to be seen.
