Mercedes Champ Lewis Hamilton Unfazed By George Russell’s Success, Displays Resolve Against Spearheading F1 Teammate

Lewis Hamilton is currently racing in his 16th season and one could argue that he has experienced almost every scenario imaginable in the sport. However, it is still surprising to see Russell performing better than his veteran teammate as the young Brit sits ahead of Hamilton in the championship. However, the former world champion is “not someone that really is surprised,” not by Russell’s performances as well.

Russell has been brilliant despite the poor W13 and was finishing in the top five until the home Grand Prix. When questioned about Russell, Hamilton shared exactly what he thinks about the young brit.

“I knew that he was going to be strong, I knew he was going to do a good job and in general I don’t feel like we’ve done as great a job as his side of the garage has done,” said Hamilton.

“But at the end of the day, I’m a much older driver like I want people to be the best they can be.”

He added, “I think he’s done great. He’s got so many great points for the team on my side I’m sad that I haven’t been able to collect as many points for the team but we’re working on being better.”

The Mercedes world champion lost out on many points at the beginning of the season. However, with the improvements in W13, Hamilton is improving on his results and gathering more points.

However, it’s not lost on Hamilton that the experiments which led to the improvements definitely set them back.

Only one factor, the bouncing of the Mercedes W13, has slowed the world champion and affected his start of the season. And despite seeing the results in recent races, the experiments have slowed them down.

And pointing that out, Hamilton said, “It’s just not a very easy scenario. There’s been a lot of tests and experimental things that I’ve tried to take on and the experiment for the team so we could try and move forward and that’s really set us back a little bit and put us a on a bit of the back foot.”
