Lewis Hamilton has enjoyed a golden run with Mercedes in Formula 1. His contract with Mercedes ends this season, and it appears that Hamilton and Mercedes are having trouble closing the next deal on the table.

It is reported that Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is certain that Lewis will drive for the Silver Arrows next season. He said that he has no concerns about Hamilton leaving Mercedes after 2020.

According to the reports, Toto Wolff said on BBC Radio, “If an asteroid hits the world then anything can happen. But at the moment there’s no reason he wouldn’t want to be in the quickest car and we want him in the car so it’s a perfect match.”

Wolff not concerned about Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes

Wolff acknowledged that it has also changed the way business is done. Lewis Hamilton is probably looking for more time to decide, owing to the uncertainties caused by the pandemic.

On the negotiations taking more time, Wolff surmised, “I think everything should be done this year. I don’t want to go into any other negotiation mid-year next year and drag it on again.”

Toto Wolff has reportedly admitted a shift in responsibility in Mercedes. He said, “We’re a good team, the two of us, but if I were to go, there’s a fantastic group of people in Brixworth and in Brackley and I think they would do pretty well without me.”

Wolff further added, “He [Hamilton] needs to continue his career. If we can do it together, that would be wonderful.”

Wolff clarified that they want to close the deal by the end of the year. He clarified, “We know we have a deadline until the end of the year when everything needs to be sorted out.”

He further added, “None of us wants to go into the Christmas break without knowing.”

Lewis Hamilton has broken almost every Formula 1 with Mercedes. It is certain that his next goal is to win the most championships by a driver in Formula 1 history. With the speed that Mercedes have, Lewis Hamilton will most certainly avoid defecting to another camp.
