The Mercedes AMG F1 team has been struggling at the start of the 2022 season. Once a force to be reckoned with, the German giants are currently nowhere close in terms of competitiveness and performance to their rivals, Ferrari and Red Bull. They need to bring major changes to their car to turn the tide around.

Among many, one change they are definitely bringing to the inaugural Miami Grand Prix is a different-looking rear wing. Together with their partner FTX, the world champions will feature a special NFT artwork, made by @Mad_Dog_Jones, on the rear wings of their car.

They will auction the innovative and colorful rear wing off after the race on the FTX website. It is an interesting marketing strategy on behalf of their partnership with FTX.

Mercedes trackside engineering director explains the changes for Miami

Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin talked about how the team is targeting the Miami Grand Prix weekend through being in some new changes to their car. Since the track is new and unused, it will be interesting to see what data will the team gather from the new parts on the car. But Shovlin revealed the team is aware of where they are lacking in terms of performance compared to that of their rivals.

“[These are] problems that are new to us, that we need to get on top of and understand and there is an enormous amount of energy back here going into that, but day by day we are,” said Andrew.

“We are learning more about it and hopefully, soon, maybe as soon as Miami, we can bring some parts to the car that will hopefully give us an indication of whether we are moving in the right direction,” said the Mercedes F1 Director.
