Formula 1 entered a new era in 2022 with fresh rules and regulations. Everything from the size of the tires to the standings in the championship has taken a new look this year. Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes face a new challenge after transforming from being hunted to becoming the hunter themselves.

The W13 is the thorn in the side of the seven-time world champion and his team. It is an underperforming package and is unable to match the benchmark set by Red Bull and Ferrari. Notably, it is the longest dry spell in Hamilton’s career without a win in the season.

However, he is not going to give up that easily and has shown that with his exceptional driving performances lately. In the last four races, the Briton has grabbed consecutive podium positions.

The Austrian boss, Toto Wolff spoke highly about the veteran to motorsport.com by saying, “The situation Lewis is in is just very different. If you’re fighting for the world championship, you have to focus one hundred percent on that. Now he is in a fight with his car.”

“He tries to motivate the team. He stays positive even when things aren’t going well. His attitude is fantastic,” (translated using google)

Many believed that the Brit should have retired after losing out on his 8th world title in the 2021 Abu Dhabi finale. Nonetheless, just like his crash helmet says ‘Still We Rise’, the Mercedes champion rose from the ashes.

Wolff applauds the Lewis Hamilton & George Russell partnership

Even though the Brackley outfit does not have a car capable of winning races, it has not let that demotivate them in their quest to battle this season. Not being the leader was a hard pill to swallow for the 8-time champions, but they kept their heads down and put in the hours to find the missing lap time.

Hamilton and Russell have been at the heart of the team working so efficiently this season. A driver’s feedback plays an essential role to develop the car in the right direction and in a year domineered by a budget cap, it is priceless. The Brit duo has worked harmoniously to help the team take multiple steps ahead since the Bahrain GP.

“We have a seven-time world champion and young talent who work together in a very positive way. They spar during the briefings, they try to understand how to make the car faster and they try out different settings. I think that’s very nice to see.”
