Pierre Gasly has scored more than double the points compared to his teammate Yuki Tsunoda this season. Despite that, he has run out of favor at AlphaTauri. The Frenchman’s transfer saga has refused to end when almost all the teams have fixed their driver lineups for 2023.

Gasly has been heavily linked with a move to Alpine next season. If the move follows through, he will be replacing two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso. Alonso, on the other hand, is set to replace retiree Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin in 2023. There is now an unconfirmed report that says Gasly’s move to Alpine is done, from a rather unusual source.

Mercedes and Alpine react to Pierre Gasly’s transfer news

We usually get drivers’ transfer news from either the teams or the drivers themselves. However, Gasly’s move to Alpine has been reported by none other than Fabrizio Romano. Romano is a reporter who is considered a relatively safer source of information when it comes to players’ transfers in soccer.

This time, however, he caught Formula 1 fans off-guard when he tweeted about Gasly’s move to Alpine. The soccer reporter said that the personal terms have been signed and the official announcement was just a matter of hours. However, what has left everyone in splits is BWT Alpine F1 Team and Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team’s response.

While Alpine simply replied with a thinking emoji, Mercedes replied with Fabrizio’s famous “Here we go” but with a twist, “Here we go, go, go…”.

One-off race participant Nyck de Vries is heavily linked to replace Gasly at AlphaTauri. Nyck impressed everyone with a 9th-place finish at the Italian GP. The Dutch driver replaced Alex Albon for one race after he underwent appendicitis surgery. He fared significantly well than the Williams’ other regular driver, Nicholas Latifi, who finished P15.

The weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix has already started and there are no announcements from any of the reliable sources. Neither the teams have broken the news, nor the drivers. Until then, we might have to make do with Fabrizio’s “Here we go”.
