Even though the championships were wrapped up, there was still a lot at stake in the Mercedes and Ferrari camps in the penultimate race of the season. The two teams fighting for the all-important second spot saw the ball roll in each other’s favor throughout the race. While balancing and worrying about this topsy-turvey table, George Russell lashed out at his team, which earned him some criticism from an F1 veteran.

The veteran in question is Peter Windsor, who never misses an incident on the track during his YouTube reviews. So even though he had some kind words to share about Russell’s weekend, the British journalist did not appreciate his tone.

The Brit was amazing the whole weekend. He out-qualified his world-champion teammate but was also head and shoulders above him during the race. Russell was constantly in the fight and definitely deserved appreciation for it.

“Third went to George Russell who just basically drove as he did in qualifying, just never gave up, always on it,” he complimented Russell. However, Windsor then pointed out one instance that he did not appreciate and, according to him, his team wouldn’t have either.

“Got a bit unnecessarily irate with his radio at one point when he was doing a radio check about the state of the constructor’s championship – saying how’s Lewis doing, by which he meant where is he in terms of points, do I need to do anything more, does he need to do anything more. They said well he’s doing well, he’s doing this, he’s doing that, and he said well that’s no good, I don’t want to know that quite aggressively really,” he explained the situation.

“I’m not a fan of the way the drivers talk to the team sometimes on the radio. I think this was quite a good example. Respect the team for what they’re saying, which was basically don’t worry about it George, just drive the best race you can and everything will take care of itself,” said Windsor, sharing his irritation toward Russell.

Despite Charles Leclerc’s best efforts, which Russell had nothing but respect for, the Mercedes men secured enough points to clinch P2 in the championship. This weekend was all about the fight in the constructors for the Mercedes men and they held on while giving their 100%. This is exactly why, even though Russell was ill throughout the weekend, he did not skip a beat and drove like it was the end of the world.

“I was probably coughing four times a lap, so it was pretty miserable out there. Which probably didn’t help things, but a massive relief to have brought the car home P3. It means a huge amount,” revealed Russell in his post-race interview.

Perhaps this could be the reason the young Brit was a little irritated during the race, but at the end of the day, no one will remember such a minor incident with such a massive achievement for the team.
