Within a matter of weeks, Formula 1’s buzz went from Andretti’s potential entry into the sport to A$AP Rocky’s definite entry into the sport. That’s right! The Grammy-nominated rapper is set to make waves in F1 after lighting up the music industry. And it’s all thanks to Liberty Media and the hand it’s played in the sport’s increasing popularity. Who knew just one decision taken back in 2016 could lead to a partnership between F1, A$AP Rocky, and PUMA?

Before 2017, F1 was this conservative, exclusive club. Since Liberty Media took over, though, it’s become not only one of the most inclusive but also one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. Rocky’s entry into it is just another feather on its cap, and guess who disclosed their connection to PUMA? Mercedes driver George Russell.

Can you imagine a George Russell and A$AP Rocky PUMA collaboration?

Liberty Media and F1’s decision to put their faith in each other struck a goldmine. It’s like the chance Toto Wolff took on George Russell when the youngster walked into Wolff’s office with a PowerPoint presentation. Now, the 25-year-old is considered the future of the sport. Speaking of the future of F1, A$AP Rocky is set to be a part of it in the long haul. A few months ago, PUMA signed a long-term partnership with F1 to be its official trackside retailer. Now, the American rapper has become the Creative Director for the F1 x PUMA partnership.

As he sets his sights on focusing his creative and designing energy on PUMA’s F1 collection, George Russell joined the party. But not on as big a scale. In the build-up to the Mexican GP this weekend, Russell focused his energy on PUMA’s partnership with Mercedes. After arriving in Mexico City, the Brit headed to inaugurate a PUMA Flagship store on Madero Street in the Historic Center. Welcomed by a mariachi band, Russell unveiled the newest PUMA Motorsport Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team collection. He also expressed his connection to the German brand.

“Puma is a brand that has been with me for many years. I use it for my fitness program, as casual clothing, and of course, every time I am in the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 car,” said Russell, as quoted by excelsior.com.mx. I have a very close relationship with the brand and being part of this inaugural event is a true honor for me. Hopefully, all motorsports fans enjoy it as much as I do and, above all, that we continue working together.” [Translated by Google]

A$AP Rocky will drop his first collection later this year

With how Lewis Hamilton has helped fashion grow in F1, it’s not surprising that someone with as much fashion expertise as A$AP Rocky would be interested in joining the F1 circus. Following the announcement, he said, “Working with brands as iconic as PUMA, and as innovative as F1, has been truly inspiring. When the world sees what we’re doing, I believe a shift will happen with how brands approach taking risks and working with diverse creatives.”
