The Mercedes F1 team had high expectations ahead of the 2023 United States Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton was one of the favourites to win, ending his longest winless streak. Not just his, but also the Constructors. The Brazilian Grand Prix 2022 was the last moment of glory when George Russell took the win for the team. And glory came at COTA. Hamilton finished P2, two seconds behind Max Verstappen. However, the race was far from expectations and far from over. The FIA disqualified the Briton for excessive wear on the plank, and all expectations of the outfit tanked.

Although the weekend was a rather grim one for Mercedes, fans caught some golden moments of comfort and hilarity. From Charles Leclerc announcing on the radio, “And penalty for Mr Russell,” to Verstappen’s engineer talking to the Dutch driver in the braking despite him telling not to do so. However, no driver could beat George Russell as he presented himself as the king of memes once again. And the F1 community is LOLing hard.

Driver’s Parade is an exciting event for hardcore F1 fans. It is a moment for the fans to photograph their favourite drivers and experience them closer. However, the Mercedes driver, George Russell, might not step into a classic Mercedes again for the parade. His reason? In pure Gen-Z fashion, fans caught him lacking.

Fans crack up as George Russell’s meme goes viral

In a collaborative Instagram post, F1 and Mercedesamgf1 pages capitalised off the viral George Russell clip. Accurately captioned, “When someone starts talking about F1,” the post amassed around 300k likes, with fans talking about it everywhere. After jokes on his title pose were just on the brink of extinction, the 25-year-old is the face of yet another meme. To this offence, Russell has given his defence in a comment side-eyeing the fans.

Waving to the crowd and smiling for the camera, the Mercedes driver hasn’t lived down his pose in the title sequence yet. Nevertheless, he has given the fans a fresh arsenal for GIFs and reactions.
