Max Verstappen’s dominance and consecutive race wins have brought him a lot of attention. And not always the good kind. Especially not from the Mercedes team. Toto Wolff’s Wikipedia jibe seemed to have got to Red Bull who were nowhere in the Singapore GP. Nonetheless, one of the F1 commentators exposed Toto Wolff’s hypocrisy as Lewis Hamilton slaughtered the Red Bulls in Singapore.

Remember how Toto Wolff advised that Max Verstappen’s consecutive win record is just for the Wikipedia page? Well, looks like David Croft had a perfect comeback for the Mercedes CEO. Lewis Hamilton finished the race P3 after an eventful second half of the Singapore GP where the Mercedes hunted down the top runners on fresh medium tires. How did Lewis Hamilton and George Russell lose the race to Carlos Sainz?

When the Virtual safety car came out with a third of the race to go, Mercedes took the gamble and pitted from P2 and P4. After making multiple overtakes as a pair, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton found themselves on the back of Lando Norris in P2 and Sainz in P1 with about 4 laps to go. What happened next is just pure genius from the Spaniard.

Sainz asked his team to keep updating him about the gap to Norris behind. He would intentionally give Norris the DRS so that McLaren could act as a barrier between him and the Mercedes. And it worked like a charm! Mercedes tried everything but was not able to overtake Norris. Eventually, George Russell tried too hard and put it in the barrier at the end.

It just wasn’t meant to be for the Silver Arrows specifically for Russell who maybe tried too much to lose it in the end. What do you think about George & Mercedes’ roller coaster race in Singapore?
