With every passing year, safety becomes an increasingly important aspect of life in Formula 1. Albeit the sport has become considerably safer compared to just a decade ago, there is always room for improvement. The FIA’s attempt to make the sport safer even looked at hypothetical aspects that led to the jewelry ban, remember that? If the jewelry ban saga wasn’t enough, Lewis Hamilton has put himself in trouble again. He thought he was in the clear after his penalty. However, the FIA wants to revisit the Brit’s case, sparking some backlash from the fans.

After his opening lap crash in Qatar, a dejected Lewis Hamilton to get back to the garage crossed the track. He might’ve looked left and right before crossing the road like we’re supposed to. However, he was crossing the track with active F1 cars on it, which is extremely dangerous for everyone. This is exactly why Hamilton received the added misery of a $52,000 fine after the Qatar GP.

However, as reported by Motorsport.com and seen on X, the Brit’s case will be reopened by the governing body for a closer look. The reason? Well, first thing first, it’s not to give the Mercedes man additional fines or reprimands. The suspended $52,000 fine, half payable now and half if he breaches any more safety procedures until the end of the season is it. The FIA wants to reopen the case to look at the severity of the incident and to decide if, in the future, the punishment should be greater or stricter. Let us tell you in the words of an FIA spokesperson.

“The FIA notes that Lewis was apologetic during the subsequent stewards hearing in to the incident and acknowledged that the crossing was a serious safety breach. However, in view of his role model status, the FIA is concerned about the impression his actions may have created on younger drivers,” said the FIA spokesperson.
