For the past week, the entire world of F1 was consumed by the off-season drama between the Wolffs and the FIA. The Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff, was accused of being in cahoots with his wife, the F1 Academy Managing Director Susie. The two faced criticism out of the blue when the governing body released a statement expressing their concerns about the spouses proving to be in a conflict of interest.

However, this statement from the FIA united the entire world of F1 and we saw a statement from all teams supporting the Wolffs. Quickly after that, the FIA dropped the case and admitted this entire controversy did not require an investigation as it earlier suggested. Everyone moved on, including Susie Wolff, as she shifted her focus to the F1 Academy. However, not Toto Wolff, the Austrian billionaire did not appreciate this personal attack on his family and their integrity one bit and this is exactly why we believe Wolff might take serious action against the FIA.

The Austrian was not pleased with the FIA’s unprompted and sudden public statement, which put him and his wife in a bad light. The governing body did not even give the Wolffs the common courtesy of responding to these allegations before making them public. This disrespectful behavior did not please Toto Wolff one bit and his recent comments in an interview with Bild, as quoted by Formula Passion, prove that.

“My wife and I have petrol in our veins. But we are professional enough to clearly separate work and home areas. I also don’t see where our work overlaps that significantly,” he explained, trying to discredit the accusations.

This controversy made Toto Wolff furious, and he made it abundantly clear in the same interview. He explained he is used to the dirty politics of F1 and said, “After ten years as team principal I am hardened and what happened doesn’t surprise me at all, but this story was shocking. I got caught in the crossfire, but it’s no problem. In Formula 1, you fight with your elbows out. I have thick skin and I can tolerate it.

However, the aspect that has crossed the line for him is the accusation toward his family. He concluded, “But when people pick on my family, it’s on another level. It was a personal attack that crossed the red line.”

What Are the Allegations against Susie and Toto Wolff That United F1 World Feat. Christian Horner & Co.?

There is a feeling despite the FIA’s backtracking of the accusations and the desire to investigate the entire situation, the Australian won’t rest easy. We believe Toto Wolff would want to make the governing body pay for the disrespect toward his family, and the Austrian is more than capable of making them pay.

In fact, Wolff’s statement amidst the controversy showcased how eagerly he was waiting for the dust to settle before he could make his move.
