“R.I.P W13”: F1 Fans Mock Mercedes As Defending Champions Declare War on Ferrari For Prized Spot on Constructors’ Board

The 2022 season is different for a number of reasons. The most glaring of which is the state of the Mercedes team. They were winning day in and day out. Till the 2021 season, they were favorites from the get-go. This season? Not so much.
16 races into the season, Mercedes sit at 3rd in the Constructor’s Championship with a 174 points gap between them and Red Bull. In the Driver’s Standings, George Russell is at 4th, with virtually no chance to catch up with Max Verstappen. Permutations no longer account for a Mercedes victory.

The team is in a precarious position. The previous 5 races have been won by Max Verstappen on the trot. On the other hand, The Silver Arrows have not secured a race win in any of the 16 races yet with the spoils being shared by Red Bull and Ferrari only. George Russell has done decently well with a respectable 4th position for the time being.
Consequently, fans have been showing their dissatisfaction on social media platforms.

Lewis Hamilton Crowned Himself the Roger Federer of F1 in This Aspect: “No One Can Touch Him”
While comments from fans and rival fans are expected, one particular tweet by Mercedes from 2020 has been dug up.
Mercedes Tweet Comes Back to Bite
In 2020, when things were going well for Mercedes, they came up with the following tweet via their official Twitter handle.
We don’t race to finish second and third, Parth. That’s just our mentality.
— Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team (@MercedesAMGF1) August 9, 2020
This, however, now seems to have landed them in a hilarious position on social media. Rival team fans have eagerly taken up the rare chance to banter with the team and its fans.

With only 5 races remaining in the season, it would not be incorrect to say that Mercedes don’t have much to play for. Although the Constructor’s Championship second place still remains on the table, it is not what Mercedes aim for when they start out a new season.
