The 2022 season is different for a number of reasons. The most glaring of which is the state of the Mercedes team. They were winning day in and day out. Till the 2021 season, they were favorites from the get-go. This season? Not so much.

16 races into the season, Mercedes sit at 3rd in the Constructor’s Championship with a 174 points gap between them and Red Bull. In the Driver’s Standings, George Russell is at 4th, with virtually no chance to catch up with Max Verstappen. Permutations no longer account for a Mercedes victory.

The team is in a precarious position. The previous 5 races have been won by Max Verstappen on the trot. On the other hand, The Silver Arrows have not secured a race win in any of the 16 races yet with the spoils being shared by Red Bull and Ferrari only. George Russell has done decently well with a respectable 4th position for the time being.

Consequently, fans have been showing their dissatisfaction on social media platforms.

With only 5 races remaining in the season, it would not be incorrect to say that Mercedes don’t have much to play for. Although the Constructor’s Championship second place still remains on the table, it is not what Mercedes aim for when they start out a new season.
