The last lap fiasco in Abu Dhabi has brought dark clouds over the Brackley team’s future course of action. Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton lost out on his record eighth world title following a controversial finish. The Briton was furious with the developments during the Safety car period. He even called it “manipulated” over the team radio.
Days later, the Mercedes driver was notably absent from the FIA prize-giving ceremony, giving rise to speculations over his continuation in F1. Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone also suggested that the Silver Arrows star might just bow out of his seat in F1. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff recently made a statement that further bolstered these claims. The Austrian said, “I really hope that Lewis will continue to race.”
Amidst all the confusion, fans are still waiting on any substantial update on the same. Many are seeing a recent tweet from the Mercedes team as a ray of hope.

Many are seeing this as a hint from the team on Hamilton’s return. Much more than anyone else, his Red Bull rival Max Verstappen himself wants the Briton to be around for a while. “Lewis is 36 now, so maybe there is a few more years for him, hopefully a few more years for me after that,” said Verstappen as reported by MSN.
“I hope, of course, he will stay in the sport a bit longer and we can have more of these battles. He’s a seven-time World Champion and it has been a pleasure to race against him this year especially,” he added.
