Former F1 team principal Eddie Jordan believes Mercedes, Renault, and Honda will leave Formula 1 in 2 years. According to Jordan, Mercedes will sell its team to Canadian billionaire Lance Stroll. Additionally, Eddie believes the Mercedes name will live on F1 through McLaren.

Jordan predicts Mercedes exit

Ever since the inception of the Turbo-hybrid era in Formula 1, the Brackley outfit has dominated the sport. The German team has won every single Championship on offer since 2014 and is showing no signs of slowing down. With an impeccable win record, Jordan believes the Brackley outfit has nothing left to prove in Formula 1.

It hasn’t been very long since Renault and Honda made their Formula 1 returns. After nearly four years, Honda finally tasted victory with Red Bull last year. The Japanese manufacturer has the momentum heading into this season but the same cannot be said for Renault. The Enstone outfit’s F1 return hasn’t been very successful but the team is making progress.

Moreover, with Mercedes shifting focus towards renewable energy, the German team can afford to pull out with very little to lose. However, Jordan expects Mercedes to stick on in F1 through its customer teams, specifically McLaren.  Last year, McLaren announced its decision to partner with Mercedes as an engine supplier from 2021.

The first McLaren-Mercedes partnership lasted nearly 2 decades and produced several Championships. Eddie expects the partnership to pick up where it left off and forge a winning routine once again.

Undoubtedly, Jordan’s most bizarre prediction is Mercedes selling its team to Lawrence Stroll. The Irishman believes Stroll Sr will take over the Brackley outfit somewhere down the line as he’s running Aston Martin. From 2021, Racing Point will rebrand itself to a works Aston Martin F1 team, with Stroll in charge.

Speaking to Sport1, Jordan said:
“I am convinced that manufacturers like Mercedes, Honda, and maybe Renault will pull the ripcord and in the course of will end their Formula 1 engagement in the next two years. “

“The Mercedes leadership cannot do anything else: they have achieved everything, won everything. Under the circumstances, they can no longer market further successes. They will sell their team.”

“Maybe to Lawrence Stroll, who aims to become world champion with his son and his new brand Aston Martin. But that will be difficult with his current Racing Point team”
