The latest American addition to the F1 grid, Logan Sargeant, picked up his racing number. The former F2 driver finally decided to go on with number 2 as his official car number. As Williams announced this on social media, fans reacted to this in a bitter-sweet fashion.

Williams F1 team announced Sargeant as Nicholas Latifi’s replacement for the 2023 season. As the American driver is slated to join Alex Albon next season, he had to settle for number 2. Even though he had number 3 in mind, due to his extreme liking for NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, he could not claim it as it already belongs to Daniel Ricciardo.

As Ricciardo is still in Formula 1, tied up with Red Bull, Sargeant will need to wait at least a few years to inherit his favorite number. Interestingly, Ricciardo himself is a Dale Earnhardt fan, and he picked up the number 3 as his racing number for the same reason.

Fans react as they saw Logan Sargeant pick up number 2

As soon as the information surfaced on the internet, fans reacted to Logan Sargeant’s choice. The fans referred to various links and connections with the number as Sargeant inherited Vandoorne’s number.

The FIA regulations stopped the 21-year-old from claiming the number 3 as two drivers can’t have the same number. Moreover, the driver who once used a number will have to go two seasons without appearing in the sport. Stoffel Vandoorne, however, used the number last in 2018.
