The surgery of 7-time world champion, Michael Schumacher is now, a no go. At least not during the current pandemic. The German was involved in a skiing accident, 6 and a half years ago, which lead to brain trauma. He was scheduled to undergo a heart cell transfusion therapy. With the aim being to “regenerate his nervous system.” This would have been the second time in two years, in which Schumi would have undergone this treatment.

The Schumacher family declined to comment on reports being widely published on Thursday. But it is believed they would not consider any such operation during the coronavirus outbreak.

He adds, “A representative of the Schumacher family reiterated their long-held position. Declining to comment on private matters or speculation on the former Ferrari driver’s condition. It is understood that while surgery may take place at some point it will not occur while the health risks attached to coronavirus remain.”

Michael’s treatment was to be handled by Dr Philippe Menasche. A pioneer in cell surgery, he was also in charge of a similar operation on Schumi, last year.

Dr Nicola Acciari is a renowned neurosurgeon. She had earlier said, “Over the past 20 years, science has made enormous progress with stem cell treatment. But that does not change that we still do not know much about the brain. We are not able to say what the results will be.”

Michael’s former teammate at Ferrari, Felipe Massa gave an update about his condition in May. He said, “We know his situation is not easy. He is in a difficult phase but we need to respect him and the family.”

Schumi still holds the record for the most F1 titles won. Only Lewis is currently close enough to surpass him. He was Ferrari’s most successful driver, winning 5 titles back to back. He had initially retired after the 2006 season. But made a rather unsuccessful comeback with Mercedes in 2010. His time at Mercedes was only a small blip on an otherwise fantastic racing career.
