Mick Schumacher, son of Michael Schumacher, has embraced rapid growth in the past few years, flourishing his way up the Formula series’ with championship victories in F3 and F2. And now, here he stands at the age of 22, with already a year of experience in the top-most category of the motorsport hierarchy, Formula One.

Hence, it has undeniably been a stupendous journey for the young German, and when one wonders who Mick would credit for his success in racing, the answer is quite straightforward – His father, Michael Schumacher. From a very young age, Mick was exposed to the world of motorsport by the seven-time world champion.

He would often show up to Grand Prix events, cheering for his dad. And eventually, the Ferrari world champion pushed his son into karting, the very first step to becoming an F1 driver, and signed himself up as his son’s mentor.

The Michael Schumacher advice

During a Formula One video, Schumacher opened up about how his father stressed the importance of late-braking during his karting days.

My dad told me to brake later because I always like saying, ‘Yeah I found two-tenths in this corner’, and what he said, ‘What did you do?’, I was like ‘I braked later’. He was like, ‘Well, you should brake later all the time’,” the Haas F1 driver said.

Overall, Mick has laid a strong foundation for his Formula One career with a rather decent rookie stint with Haas. What’s more, with the regulation changes in the offing, there is a possibility that Haas could find their way back up to the mid-field, consequently boosting their prospects of scoring points.
