Mick Schumacher is all set to get his first taste of F1 action at next Sunday’s Eifel Grand Prix with Alfa Romeo. The young German will be in the cockpit of Antonio Giovinazzi’s C39 and will take to the Nurburgring during the first free practice session.

The 21-year-old currently leads the F2 Drivers’ Championship with 191 points and has been touted to make the jump to F1 next season. Alfa Romeo is likely to be the team that will sign him.

On hearing that he will be getting a shot at driving F1 machinery in Germany, he was pumped. But first, he had to undergo a series of acclimatization tests. And these tests included driving Ferrari’s 2018 car, the SF71H, at the Fiorano circuit in Italy.

Having completed the tests at Fiorano on the 30th of September, Schumacher spoke about the aspects that he made a note of while driving the F1 machinery.

He said, “Getting behind the wheel of a 2018 hybrid car allowed me to understand how important the electronics are for the power unit and how much progress Formula 1 has made in terms of aerodynamics.

Mick Schumacher Reacts to His Upcoming F1 Debut With Alfa Romeo

Mick Schumacher talks about why his first taste of F1 action will be special

The young German driver said, “I can’t wait to jump into the cockpit in Germany. It’ll be nice to take part in a practice session for the first time.  (That too) in front of my home crowd. In the team, there are some mechanics who worked with my father and that will make the day even more special.

Mick’s father is widely hailed as the best driver to ever grace the sport. So Mick may have a lot of pressure riding on him to match that standard.

However, Schumacher Jr. has shown that he has considerable talent and can write his own history. Were he to win a seat in F1 next year, it would purely be on a meritorious basis.

Alongside Mick, at the Fiorano testing, were two other Ferrari academy drivers and current F2 title competitors. Namely, Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman.

Like Schumacher, they too will get their first taste of live F1 action in the upcoming FP1 sessions. Ilott and Shwartzman will both drive for Haas (Ilott in Germany, Shwartzman in Abu Dhabi)

The next generation of F1 racers promises to be a good one. Moreover, if all three find a seat in F1 next year, it should make for some interesting viewing.
