Every major automaker wants to forge a long-lasting connection with the Formula 1 community. Volkswagen had the same objectives, and Audi seemed to be doing well in that regard. Along with formally confirming its intention to compete in motorsport, the Ingolstadt-based company has now made public its critical plans for title contention. Their strategy could offer Mick Schumacher some hope.
The 2026 Formula 1 season will see the collaboration of Audi and Sauber (now Alfa Romeo), with the German company supplying the engines and the Swiss team building and designing the cars themselves. While Andreas Seidl took the post of CEO at Sauber ahead of schedule indicates Audi’s influence on Sauber’s F1 operations. there is still some time before they formally join the grid.

The corporation might purchase Sauber F1 shares to further demonstrate its grip over the team’s entire strategy now that many things are working in the German brand’s favor. With this in mind, the drivers’ lineup, which Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess revealed this year, must be the most crucial factor.
Talking to Motorsports.com Italy he said, “Formula 1 hasn’t been successful in the US until now, but obviously, now it’s coming. Of course, it’s always the case that a driver from the right country can be very successful in that country, and Formula 1 becomes very popular. I assume that we will try to employ German drivers in our two teams, for sure.”
The CEO’s comments may have given the Mercedes reserve Mick Schumacher, who was replaced by team Haas, some cause for optimism. The 23-year-old too can look into any potential openings for a full-time position in the paddock.
Each team is aiming for success, but the newcomer Audi also expresses its optimism by saying that it hopes to be competitive within the next three years.
Audi hopes to be competitive in the next three years
According to the German-based corporation, they planned to compete at the highest level of motorsport with two distinct brands, Porsche and Audi, each with its own launch strategy. Porsche has, so far, struggled to build alliances, in contrast to Audi, where everything is working very nicely.
And now that everything appears to be going according to plan, Audi Formula Racing CEO Adam Baker stated that the company anticipates winning by its third season.

We want to be competitive in three years,” Baker told AS. “It is a realistic goal. We want to compete for wins in the third year.” Despite the change in power unit regulations, which will offer it a chance to compete with the top teams, Baker acknowledges that manufacturers will face difficulties while entering the sport. “ It is attractive for Audi to enter 2026 because we decided on it ahead of time. We have 42 months until the first race. In the last 30 years, it must be one of the most advanced decisions of any manufacturer.”
