As Formula 1 broke for its annual summer break, most drivers dissociated from the motorsport world to enjoy some downtime away from it. But a Melbourne-born driver, who practically grew up around sports, made his way back to Silverstone—where he almost got his first career podium—to witness the MotoGP British GP. Not just that. He made it a point to say hello to one of MotoGP’s all-time greats, Marc Marquez. Who was it? McLaren rookie Oscar Piastri

At the F1 Belgian GP last weekend, Piastri proved why he’s so highly rated. Apart from having the upper hand on his teammate Lando Norris throughout the weekend, he navigated through the flowy and twisty, fast-paced Spa-Francorchamps with so much confidence that it didn’t look like his first time there in an F1 car.

It’s safe to say he lit the track on fire, especially after his first top-three finish during the Sprint, where he finished second behind Max Verstappen. Although his Sunday race got cut short due to a Lap 1 collision, he left the circuit with his head held high.

With his head held high, he walked onto the track to meet Marquez and cheer him on before the Sprint. MotoGP’s official Twitter account posted the interaction on its page and captioned it, “Pleasure to have you @OscarPiastri! 👋 A quick chat and good luck to @marcmarquez93! 🤝” Needless to say, F1 and MotoGP fans were in a frenzy after witnessing their conversation, and they took to Twitter to express their excitement.

Oscar Piastri’s “Multiverse of Madness” interaction with Marc Marquez

Marc Marquez joined MotoGP in 2013 and immediately made his mark in the sport by winning the championship that season at just 20 years of age. And now, as a 30-year-old, with 6 titles and 59 wins under his belt, he’s the most successful Spanish motorcyclist to have competed in MotoGP. Considering Piastri was around the same age as he was when he joined F1, he certainly has a level of respect for Marquez.

When Piastri went to wish him well before the race, it was evident how much he looked up to Marquez. But fans were more interested in the crossover, and Twitteratis didn’t miss a beat before going into a frenzy. A few users expressed how “beautiful” the crossover was.

Marquez is undoubtedly a MotoGP GOAT. With how much Piastri has grown in just the past five months in F1, there’s no questioning that he has what it takes to win races and titles if given the right machinery. One Twitterati alluded to this when they wrote how Piastri meeting Marquez is like the GOAT recognizing a baby GOAT.
