Guinness World Record Smashed by McLaren Prodigy to Save Face After Max Verstappen’s Unparalleled Heroics

After Formula 1, IndyCar, Extreme E, and eSports, McLaren also made entered the world of Formula E last year. With the Woking-based outfit’s desire to diversify and add to its racing portfolio, this was the logical next step. However, the sport does not have a massive viewership and is far from where they’d like to be. Although after McLaren’s Formula E wing’s latest achievement, the team has captured all headlines. This came as a boost for the sport and especially McLaren’s long-standing record was shattered by Max Verstappen and Co.
We are all aware after Verstappen’s win at the Hungarian GP, Red Bull broke’s McLaren’s record of 11-race wins in a row. However, the Formula E wing saved face for it, amid Max’s heroics in F1. The Formula E wing of McLaren came into being just last year after acquiring the championship-winning Mercedes -EQ Formula E team. Now, just a year later, McLaren’s Formula E driver Jake Hughes has made a world record. As reported by Supercar Blondie, the Australian content creator, Hughes set the record and became the world’s fastest driver indoors.

The British driver set the record at 218.7 mph, almost a mile faster than his competition Lucas di Grassi of Mahinda Racing. The two Formula E drivers took the challenge on the 0.21-mile-long indoor race track in ExCel arena, London. To even out the competition, both drivers had access to a GENBETA Formula E race car.
“[Being told] you’re the fastest person ever indoor. That hit home then. That’s pretty special,” Hughes told Supercar Blondie Alex Hirschi.
Hughes definitely brought some pride back to McLaren with his heroics undoing Verstappen’s efforts to some extent. However, Hughes isn’t alone in those efforts.
Lando Norris put his best foot forward to sully the pride of Max Verstappen and his heroics in Hungary
The Brit, as we all know, has a unique style of celebration. However, Norris’s unique champagne-spraying style caused more damage than expected in Hungary. We all saw Norris knock Verstappen’s winner’s trophy off the podium and onto the ground causing irreparable damage. While, the Brit took it quite lightly, a week later he expressed a sincere apology too in Belgium for his actions to settle any bad sentiments.

After the Hungarian GP podium, Norris said, “Max just placed [his trophy] too close to the edge. It fell over, I guess. Not my problem. It’s his!” Even though Norris blamed the Dutchman for the trophy’s eventual state, McLaren apologized. However, despite Norris’s best efforts, he won’t be able to take the shine off of the memorable record-breaking trophy.

Apparently, the company responsible for manufacturing the trophy was ready for such a scenario. In fact, the trophy has a lifetime warranty and the Dutchman will get a replacement soon.

Norris tried his best and so did Hughes but nothing will take the shine off of Verstappen and Co.’s achievement. Let’s see how far can they extend it now.
