Golfing has become a popular hobby among F1 drivers lately. Alex Albon is also on the list of golfers on the F1 grid. Although, his game ain’t as great as other drivers. Still, the Thai driver is putting in every effort to improve his golfing skills, especially since his relationship with pro golfer Lily Muni started. He recently also revealed how his golfer girlfriend and some VR equipment have helped him to change his game over the last few years.

In a video with GQ Sports, Albon mentioned having an Oculus Rift that he uses to play golf simulator games. He stated how this helped him during the quarantine periods at races in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Albon said, “So I bought myself an Oculus Rift. My girlfriend does to, she has one. I think it’s got competitive. There is some really good games out there. But I was losing badly.” Alex’s Oculus Rift which also has the latest version now named Meta Quest 2, is worth up to $500.

He also stated how an additional $50 golf grip equipment has also helped him change his game. Alex said, “So I adopted, I found this thing online, which is like a golf grip attachment. My game has changed ever since and I’m still losing but I’m losing less. and obviously being in a long-distance relationship, it’s also nice to play games together.”

As Alex’s partner Lily is also a pro athlete, she cannot spend much time with the Williams driver owing to both of their seasons going on. Thus, Albon feels that his VR equipment has been the secret behind his happy LDR (long-distance relationship) with Lily while also solving his issue of off-track boredom.

Still, Lily has not been impressed with Alex’s game improvements. Alex once revealed how she consistently talks trash about his golf, whenever they play together. Yet, Albon has been showing some good progress while playing with his F1 mates.

The Golfing Skills of Alex Albon

Alex Albon ain’t shy to admit that he does not match the pro level of his partner Lily in golf. Still, in a fun game with Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and other F1 drivers, Alex did a decent job. Albon was with Leclerc in one team, while Norris led the other team of Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez last year.

This was a friendly game before the 2022 season started during the Bahrain preseason testing. Although Albon and Leclerc were playing with a man down, they won the friendly game. Nonetheless, Alex believes he is far off the golf etiquette and skills needed.

The former Red Bull driver once cited that he cannot control himself on the course. Alex mentioned how he laughs or runs around when others are driving or putting. Even Checo Perez poked fun at Alex’s golfing skills during the 2022 Secret Santa for Christmas. Perez gifted Albon a free golf lessons session with him to improve his game.
