There are rare occasions when Lewis Hamilton might get ignored. The 2015 NASCAR Finale was one of those occasions. Hamilton was attending the Sprint Cup series finale at Homestead-Miami. During the pre-race proceedings, the Mercedes legend was present alongside 4-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon.

The 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup finale was a close fight for the title. Lewis Hamilton was particularly excited to watch his favorite Jeff Gordon around the Homestead track for the last time. While the pre-race proceedings with media activities went on Hamilton met with Gordon’s family too.

Although when it came to introducing Hamilton to his son Leo, Gordon could not get his son’s attention. When Lewis approached Leo to shake hands, the young boy just turned around to unknowingly ignore the F1 champ.

The Briton may have felt awkward for a moment but took it on the chin to just laugh it off. It was a glorious day as Gordon and Hamilton were discussing several things before the finale began. Along with Gordon, Kyle Busch was also present as he was one of the contenders for the title.

Busch, who started 3rd, won the championship from Gordon, who had started 5th. Hamilton certainly was excited to witness this nail-biting battle.

Seeing this, it is only fair to say that Lewis is an avid fan of American racing culture and NASCAR. After watching the 2015 finale, he also expressed his wish to participate in NASCAR one day.

Lewis Hamilton and his NASCAR Ambitions

After the 2015 season finale concluded, Lewis Hamilton spoke about how different NASCAR is from F1 and yet is pretty exciting. He cited how they do several things that are better than F1.

As per ESPN, Lewis said, “It was a really cool event, I hope I get to do one day. I don’t know, I would have to really think about that but there are definitely things they do a lot better than us … Or for sure that we could learn from them.”

Though Hamilton may just want to try getting into a stock car for a one-off event, it will be a big deal. The 7-time champion’s popularity in the USA has grown immensely over the years. So it may be a great chance if he wants to try something other than F1.

There were murmurs that he may consider coming to the United States to try stock car racing since he was dropped from McLaren. Denying the rumors, he said, F1 is where he wants to be right now.

Kimi Raikkonen was one of the drivers who competed in the NASCAR Truck Series during his sabbatical from F1 in 2010 and 2011. And, more recently, the Finn became a part of Project91 by TrackHouse Racing. With this, he raced at Watkins Glen this year in the #91 Chevrolet. Unfortunately, he crashed on lap 45 with arguably no fault of his own.
