Jenson Button is one lucky man when it comes to getting another chance at racing after retiring from F1. And it is not just any other chance at motor racing. The former F1 champion will participate in this year’s 3 NASCAR races. Moreover, he will partner up with Jimmie Johnson and Mike Rockenfeller to compete in the summit of endurance racing- the 24 hours Le Mans. The Briton recently revealed how the whole conversation around the prospect with JJ started. The video released by Garage 56 has built a great deal of excitement among the fans who cannot wait to see their favorite trio on the track soon.

JJ, Mike, and Button will race for Garage 56 in the 2023 24 hours of Le Mans. The preparations are well and truly underway. The car is ready and has already hit the tarmac. All three drivers have started their practice already and the first time in the car left Jenson overwhelmed. Jimmie recently appeared on Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s Dale Jr. Download Show where he revealed what the car felt like. He also revealed Jenson’s reaction after taking the Chevy out for a spin for the first time.

Speaking on how the conversation between him and JJ started in a video released by Garage 56, Button revealed, I was texting with Jimmie and I was like, ‘Jimmie, what are you up to?’. He said, ‘I’m doing this and I’m doing this, and I’m racing at Le Mans’. ‘What do you mean you’re racing at Le Mans? What are you racing in?’. He said, ‘I’m driving a stock car’. ‘What?!’.”

That simple conversation kick-started the former F1 champion’s Le Mans journey, which later pulled him into NASCAR. Button will participate in 3 races in NASCAR in 2023.

Further into the video, all three star drivers talk about the reverence they hold for each other. The trio felt confident of winning the endurance race, knowing each other’s capabilities behind the wheel.

They said-

JJ: I’ve been a huge fan of Mike for many years. 

JB: One of the best endurance racers in the world. You got me, you got Jimmie, seven-time champion.

JJ: Formula One experience, world championship credibility.

JB: And Jordan [Taylor]. You know, he’s won Le Mans, he’s won Daytona.

MR: As teammates, I mean, you can’t ask for more than that.
