As the electric atmosphere of the Singapore Grand Prix takes hold, McLaren’s Lando Norris shares a fresh perspective on the key contenders in the looming race. While eyes are traditionally fixed on the dominant forces of Verstappen and Hamilton, Norris hints that the real competition might be elsewhere.

In an environment where every second is crucial, Norris outlines a circuit fraught with challenges, where the true adversary may not be a who, but a what. The upgrades to the McLaren MCL60 remain a focal point of discussion, encapsulating both the hope and the circumspection that envelops the paddock this weekend.

Norris confides, “We’re understanding the new parts but we made a step forward so I’m happy. We’re close to Aston Martin and Red Bull, but at the moment the two Ferraris are too quick,” in an interview with Sky Italy.

Ferrari shone brightly in the Friday practice sessions at the Singapore Grand Prix, establishing themselves as the ones to watch this weekend, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc leading the pack with Sainz recording a standout time of 1:32.120. Meanwhile, McLaren harbors cautious optimism following recent upgrades to their MCL60, designed to improve low-speed cornering.

Sky Sports F1’s Karun Chandhok acknowledged Ferrari’s remarkable performance during commentary, underscoring their readiness to attack the corners. This praise came alongside observations of Red Bull’s less-than-stellar practice outing, a noticeable dip from their 15-race winning streak, with both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez facing difficulties on the circuit.

With Ferrari stealing the limelight, the paddock is abuzz with discussions revolving around the potential secret behind their surging pace. This surge has led to speculative analyses, bringing a seasoned perspective into the frame, is Mercedes‘ driver George Russell.

George Russell believes Ferrari didn’t use max engine power during the Singapore GP Free Practice sessions

George Russell shared his reservations regarding Ferrari holding back some power during Friday’s practice sessions. Russell stated that the Friday session was “probably our best Friday of the year so far” but was quick to add that there’s close competition with “probably five teams at the moment, which is pretty exciting.” While he affirmed Mercedes’ powerful presence, he hinted at Ferrari possibly hiding their full strength, not utilizing their top engine modes yet.

Setting the pace at the forefront led Russell to believe that Ferrari not only is looking favorite at the moment but also holds a couple more tenths in the pocket. Russell, who finished third quickest in the second practice session, stressed the importance of finding the sweet spot with C5, the softest compound tire, to easily secure precious tenths of a second. The British star forecasted a strenuous fight for the second row, urging his team to “work hard overnight, and try and gain those last milliseconds ahead of tomorrow.” (As per Motorsport.com)
