There is no doubting the fact that Ayrton Senna was one of the greatest drivers in the paddock. A talented rookie, he entered Formula 1 with Toleman Motorsport, having just won the British F3 Championship.
Absolutely fast on the racetrack, Senna was an epitome of confidence that saw him achieve splendid success. A racing genius who was also popular, even former driver James Hunt believed that Senna was ‘the greatest racing driver of all time’.
And now, to mark his greatness, Netflix is planning to roll out an eight-part series, supposedly in 2022. It is reported that the Senna family will offer some insights into his life.
The legacy of Ayrton Senna will most certainly live on
And a key person involved in helping the production team about the driver’s life is his sister Viviane Senna. Speaking in an official Netflix press release, she stated, “It is very special to be able to announce that we will tell the story that only a few people know about him.
“The Senna family is committed in making this project, something totally unique and unprecedented. And no one better than Netflix, that has a global reach, to be our partner.”
Production company Gullane will closely work with Netflix on this project. They will undertake the responsibility of overseeing the execution of this series.
The production company heads, Fabiano and Caio Gullane, said, “Senna is the type of person we need. A young man that fought for his dream and faced many obstacles, in order to represent a nation. Senna unites Brazil.”
Senna was an inspiration to many drivers
He gained some experience with the then-Lotus team for a few years in the 1980s. However, it really was with Honda McLaren that he enjoyed some of his most successful years.
Senna secured three championships, including consecutive ones in 1990 and 1991. The latter, in particular, was a dominant season for him personally as he finished on the podium 12 out of the 16 races that took place.
However, he suffered a huge crash at Imola in 1994, which led to his untimely death. Senna was a racing giant of his time, with a fearless mindset every time he took to the circuit. And the series will only strive to commemorate his personality, for all the racing fans.
