It has been more than a year since Lewis Hamilton last won a Grand Prix. Can you believe that? Few fans can believe who may have followed F1 since the Briton’s debut in 2007. Though Lewis was not really bothered about not winning a race last season. He certainly was frustrated about struggling in the midfield. For the Mercedes man, it is about challenging for the world championship, year in, year out. With this determination, Hamilton will enter the 2023 grid to end his win drought.
In an interview with FORMULE 1 magazine, Lewis spoke about how he wants to break the infamous “300” curse of F1. Apparently, no driver in F1 history has ever won a race after completing 300 race starts. Hamilton stands on 310 race starts to date.
So, with his last race win coming in Saudi Arabia in 2021, the Briton is confident of breaking this trend. Hamilton stated confidently about no driver winning a race after 300 starts, “But there has never been a driver like me.” This may sound like an arrogant prediction, given how Hamilton fared in 2022.

Still, Lewis knows that and also spoke about having a winless season in 2022. The 7-time champion elaborated on what he and Mercedes learned from last season. He said, “If I can say anything about last year, it’s that we as a team have only become more resilient and more determined.” [translated via Google]
Hamilton cited what was the Brackley team’s mindset after the 2021 season title loss. He stated, “Because we wanted to hit back after 2021. That was where our drive came from.” But he and the team realized how they cannot fight for the championship with the W13 car.
Lewis knows he needs the Mercedes W14 to be quicker in performance to get back in the fight for wins. Still, even if the Briton gets a sniff of a chance to get a race victory, he won’t back down. Hamilton has proven this trait of his, numerous times in the past.
How Lewis Hamilton showed his Brilliance with McLaren in 2008 in Germany
The 2008 season was Lewis Hamilton looking to get redemption for his failed 2007 title campaign. After producing a masterful drive at his home race in Silverstone and getting inspired from an epic Nadal-Federer Wimbledon final, Lewis looked determined to get a successive win in Hockenheim.

But, his team McLaren butchered up his race strategy at the 2008 German GP. As per Autosport, Hamilton started in pole position and has a comfortable 11.8s lead until Lap 35 of 67. Then, a safety car happened that saw the failed tactical call from McLaren.
The team opted to keep Lewis out and not pit under the safety car. But this did not work out in their favor. When Hamilton pitted for the last time in the race, he came out 5th with 17 laps to go. This left him on a heist to take the win in Hockenheim.

Still, Lewis did not lose hope as quickly got past the cars ahead of him. He overtook his title contender Felipe Massa on Lap 57. This only left Renault’s Nelson Piquet Jr in the lead ahead of Hamilton. It was rather easy for the Briton as he retook the race lead in Germany on the 60th lap, registering his 4th race win of the season.
