Apart from drivers, Team Principals, and celebrities, there is one person that has been making headlines on race days. It is the man who has been doing his iconic grid walk at every race of the year. Yes, it’s none other than Martin Brundle. He’s been having a lot of celebrities ignore him on the track. Instances for which fans have bashed those celebrities for their ignorance. And model Cara Delevingne did the same at Silverstone. While fans trolled Cara for the same, after that incident, a hilarious mistake that Brundle made last year has also come to light again.

At the British GP this year, Delevingne completely snubbed Brundle. In her defense, she said that she was asked not to speak to him by her entourage. And celebrities like Megan Thee Stallion and Brad Pitt, too have ignored him in the past. But, Brundle too has made some mistakes in the past. Like at the 2022 Miami GP, he mistook NBA player Paolo Banchero for NFL Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. And boy, did that get some laughs from the online audience. Katie George, Laurence Edmondson, and Nate Saunders had some good opinions on the topic that they shared on ESPN’s Unlapped podcast.

Saunders said, “It’s great for F1 even if people have framed it as a Anti-Martin thing or a Anti-Cara Delevingne thing. I think that it’s part of the show and I think he’s fine and it makes more people want to watch the grid walk. Because you might miss or him just thinking someone’s Patrick Mahomes when it’s not him. It just seemed like an awkward moment. Two people that had very different briefings on what to expect from the other person.”

Brundle might have made his share of mistakes but Delevingne snubbing him did not go well with fans. So she had to clarify herself to the public. And she did.

Cara Delevingne Clarifies Her Stance After Disrespecting F1 Presenter, Martin Brundle

The English model and actress was a guest of the Alfa Romeo F1 team at the British GP. And she was present on the racetrack when Brundle was doing his grid walk, talking to one person after another. But when he came to interview her, she shook her head, signaling ‘No’, and looked away. How could she do that? – This is what all F1 fans thought and voiced on social media. But she had her answer ready.

In the media, Delevingne said that she was instructed to not speak to Brundle. And that was her side of the argument. Alfa Romeo too, came in her support. The team gave a statement, saying, “Respect goes both ways: nobody should be placed in an uncomfortable situation or forced to do things against their will.”

As Saunders said, the two parties involved in the exchange might not be intending to cause chaos. But the awkwardness or whatever you call it does help bring more attention to the sport and the grid walk.
