Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg share a strong bond of friendship. The duo was part of Force India for 3 years, during which the team enjoyed a considerable amount of success. While Hulkenberg himself remains on the fringes of the sport, he believes Checo will definitely get a seat for next year.

He said, “He’s definitely one of the drivers that needs to be on the grid. I’m not worried for him, to be honest, that he’ll not get a drive.”

Hulkenberg also touched upon the non-racing reason regarding why Perez found himself replaced by Sebastian Vettel. After all, in a sport where profits are hard to come by, Vettel moving to Racing Point brings the team significant sponsorship as well as a marketing boost.

“It is a very expensive sport and obviously commercial reasons will have a big factor there in the team’s decision. I mean that’s no news really.

“In a way (it’s) unfortunate for Checo but in a way also maybe lucky for him, we don’t know yet. Depends where he ends up,” said Nico.

However, for the currently uncontracted Perez, it seems as though there is a silver lining in sight.

Could Sergio Perez end up at Red Bull and would he fit in?

There are plenty of rumors doing the rounds that Checo may very well end up at the Milton-Keynes based outfit. The Red Bull brass isn’t happy with the misfiring Alex Albon and has ruled out the possibility of promotion of an academy hopeful.

That paves a way for the Mexican to step up. What Checo can bring to the plate is exactly what Red Bull need.

To summarize, Sergio brings in a vast amount of experience, the ability to outperform the car (seen in the fact that he has hauled a mid-field car to the podium on 8 occasions), and most importantly, Perez will be able to push their ace Max Verstappen that teeny bit more.

However, Hulkenberg himself may not be too bad a bet either. The German has proved on 3 occasions this year that he could step up and deliver what is asked of him even on short notice.

So, who knows, perhaps these two may have to keep their friendship aside while they vie for that lucrative Red Bull drive.
