After showing immense potential, Alex Albon has fallen short of all expectations so far in 2020. It is believed that he will be replaced if he does not show any improvement in the remaining races.
It is reported that former F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, thinks that Nico Hulkenberg would be a good fit for Red Bull. The report stated, “The former F1 president thinks Nico’s style fits very well with the brand’s philosophy.”
Currently, only Max Verstappen has been confirmed as a driver for Red Bull in 2021 and Alex Albon’s seat is still a mystery.
Nico Hulkenberg a good fit for Red Bull: Bernie Ecclestone
According to the reports, the former Formula 1 boss was very impressed by Hulkenberg. He was full of praises for the German driver. Moreover, he encouraged Red Bull to take a chance with Hulkenberg.
He was quoted in an interview with German television Sport1 saying, “Nico is fast, intelligent and always speaks what he thinks, unlike most drivers who just parrot what the teams ask them to say.”
There comes an immense amount of pressure from being a teammate to Max Verstappen in Red Bull. We have seen Pierre Gasly crumble under pressure, and it seems like the same fate has befallen Alex Albon.
To this Ecclestone remarked, “Red Bull should sign him because his personality also fits with that of the team. But the most important thing is that he is capable of bringing good results because he has a very strong mentality.”
Ecclestone further advised, “You have to be that way if you are with Max Verstappen, who is a real force of nature”.
Red Bull have clarified that Pierre Gasly was never an option for the 2021 seat. They have been stating that they are committed to Alex Albon, but only if his performance improves.
At the end of the day, it’s all about fighting for the championship. Therefore, Alex’s performance in the rest of the season will have large repercussions.
