Nico Hulkenberg was struggling hard in Q1 yesterday. His car screeching around the corners with the German struggling to get a grip was a sorry picture at Nurburgring. However, the burden of starting at P20 doesn’t bother the former Renault man.

Racing Point may not be having the best of weekends at Nurburgring considering how their primary drive has been forced to the shelf, and their substitute driver placed in the 10th row at lights out.

However, the German was optimistic about his position and might handle it well this afternoon. On being asked whether he feels intimidated by the conditions, the German was as sweet as ever.

“Yeah, exactly, it is just like a normal day in my life. Cannot expect the unexpected and just dealing it, and that’s what we do. Getting out there today and we will do what we can,” replied Nico Hulkenberg.

Nico Hulkenberg undaunted by the challenge

The basic instinct in a great racer is accepting the situation and planning accordingly. Nico realizes that he didn’t have adequate time to prepare, and thus the results don’t shock him. However, his will to race his way up to the points table, now that is a sportsman’s spirit.

“It was very difficult. Those twenty minutes of Q1 they just got by like this. Just by the time I felt I had grooved in a bit, it was already over. In terms of time, it was never going to be a walk in the park when you come in like this with no preparation at all.

“But you have to take the circumstances as they are and deal with them as best as we can. Little sleep at all. We just had meetings all night long, studying the steering wheel, having lots of coffee, so I hope I’m not going to miss the start by falling asleep,” quipped Nico.

Nico Hulkenberg is in for a challenge, and so are Racing Point. Things may not go too well for the Silverstone-based outfit; however, the Hulk has proved all the naysayers wrong in the past, what’s to stop him from doing the same as the lights go out at the Eifel Grand Prix.
