Lewis Hamilton has been constantly vocal in the media about how Mercedes is not providing him with a car good enough for podiums and victories. The off-pace is what he keeps saying. Despite that, he has managed to grace the podium time and again. And the first one to react to Hamilton’s contradictory statements was Lando Norris. And now, Hamilton’s former teammate, Nico Rosberg too believes that Hamilton’s complaints should be rubbished. They are nothing but a ruse.

On Friday in Hungary, Hamilton described the W14 as being “at its worst.” But on Saturday, he managed to drive that “worst” car to Pole position. On Sunday, Norris said post-race, “I know Lewis complains a lot of how amazing our car is and how bad theirs is, but they don’t have a bad car. And they haven’t all season.”

In the latest episode of the Sky Sports podcast, the host asked Rosberg if he sympathizes with the 7-time World Champion for the W14’s condition. In reply, the German racer agreed with Norris and said that Hamilton’s comments should be taken with a pinch of salt and not given much importance.

Rosberg said, I don’t know if we should put too much weight on those comments. But of course, it can go that way. The car is not completely to your liking and it’s never a quick change then. It’s probably a waiting till the next year. But it’s rare and you can work your way around it. Like this Friday in Hungary where he said, ‘We’re struggling so much. The car is so far off.’ And then he goes and gets pole position.”

He might be receiving his share of criticism. But Hamilton has something to look forward to at Spa as Mercedes brings new upgrades.

The British racer has urged the Brackley outfit a lot to make big changes to the car. But the process of change has been rather slow, and it reflects in their inconsistent performance on the racetrack. But smaller upgrades are still being added. And as per Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff, Hamilton can expect a bit more performance from the car.

“Spa-Francorchamps is a classic venue and a true challenge for both the cars and drivers, especially in the sprint format, with such limited practice time on a long and challenging lap,” said Wolff, as quoted by Express. We will be bringing updates this weekend as part of our ongoing development program.”
