In this all-encompassing silly season, which has not held any victims, including the team principals, we saw yet another set of dismissals. Alpine already made headlines with the dismissal of their CEO, Laurent Rossi, but they did not stop there. The Enstone-based outfit decided to with a complete overhaul. This meant even team principal Otmar Szafnauer and sporting director Alan Permane got the axe. The unexpected firing of the two top men at Alpine was a surprise for many and has received much-expected criticism.

No F1 entity has come out openly to criticize the Alpine hierarchy’s erratic behavior. However, that does not mean no one is talking. The F1 paddock is a house of much gossip and that’s mostly how word gets around. Even though the interim Alpine TP would say otherwise, many believe this decision from Alpine is not their best. In fact, as quoted on Twitter, an unnamed source has claimed the French team’s recent activity is self-destructive.

“There is no plan, no direction, no mood for renewal,” said the unnamed source. “Alpine is the manual for self-destruction. You can’t run a Formula 1 team like a football team and change people at will.”

Getting sacked right in the middle of the season is a difficult scenario to overcome for anyone. However, it seems Szafnauer is already over it and is looking forward to a new challenge. However, the ex-Alpine TP is still concerned about one aspect of the team.

Before his departure, in an interview, Szafnauer said, “For me personally, I’ll be alright, and I’m fine. It’s just my worry is for all the wonderful men and women at Enstone and Viry that work hard and do a good job. I hope their future is bright.”
