In the world of Formula One, fans aren’t the only ones who can have a favorite driver. Ex F1 drivers have that liberty too. 1996 world champion, Damon Hill, has shown his support and admiration for his countryman, Nigel Mansell, wishing him on his birthday and calling him the best F1 driver they ever had.

However, some may disagree with Hill and would say that Lewis Hamilton is the best English driver on the grid. The Mercedes driver has won 7 world titles and could be the one to break Michael Schumacher’s record this year.

Hill considers Mansell as the all-time best, not considering Lewis Hamilton

Hill wrote on Twitter, “Happy birthday Nige. Still think you’re the best racer we ever had!”

Damon’s comments about Mansell being the best British driver the grid has ever had might not go with Hamilton’s fans. They would argue that Lewis being a more decorated driver and should be considered as one of the greatest of all times.

Furthermore, signing a new two-year deal with the Silver Arrows speculates that Hamilton wants to leave his mark in F1 by securing more titles in the sport.

By winning eight or more titles, maybe Lewis can change the mind of the 96′ world champion, and start regarding him as the best driver Britain has ever had.
