“Not Like We Found the Holy Grail, but…”: With Only 6 Rounds Left to Go, Mercedes Forced to Look at the Light at the End of the Tunnel

The 2022 F1 season has been far from ideal for Mercedes AMG F1. The team from Germany are not having the time they would have wished for at the beginning of the season. However, team principal Toto Wolff believes they can turn this around next season.
If considered statistically, this season has been the least successful for the Brackley-based team since 2013. Having failed to register at least one victory, the Silver Arrows are in dire need of improving the situation.

Talking about this, The German team boss, Regarding the 2023 season, stated, It’s not like we’ve found the Holy Grail, but to a certain extent, we understand what we need to do differently with next year’s car.”
“The next one or two months will be a critical phase in this regard.”
About the upcoming improvements at the Singapore Grand Prix, the Austrian team principal further asserted, “The track layout should fit our car. [Winning a race] must remain our aim for the year, although the sails are set for 2023.”
“After Spa, victory seemed impossible, but in Zandvoort, it was within reach.”
Issues Mercedes F1 team has been facing this season
From porpoising to slower straight-line speed as compared to its competitors, the Brackley-based team is hardly seeing light at the end of the tunnel this season. The team that won back-to-back constructors’ championships for eight years in a row is now in P3 in the standings.

The Silver Arrows are with 371 points after 16 races. They trail Ferrari by 35 points and leaders Red Bull by 174 points. As a matter of fact, Mercedes are yet to pick up a win in 2022.

Admittedly, porpoising has been the main cause of concern for the German team. Team drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have repeatedly raised concerns about the effects of porpoising they have been facing.

All in all, the Brackley squad is highly hopeful of a comeback in the next season. With some effective changes coming up in the Singapore Grand Prix coming up, that could be the stepping stone for their 2023 season’s success.
