Max Verstappen equaled Ayrton Senna’s 41-win record after winning the Canadian GP and put himself on the pedestal with the many greats of F1. The Dutchman’s sheer dominance this season has led many to compare the 25- year-old to the greatest in the sport. However, Max Verstappen’s legs have been cut short in the GOAT race as Michael Schumacher’s off-track heroics overshadow the Dutchman’s prowess. What were these heroics?
Helmut Marko recently suggested that only Verstappen can be compared to Senna. Nevertheless, both Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have more wins than Senna and an argument about the greatest in F1 will very well include both of them. Max Verstappen also ticks all the checkboxes for the GOAT debate. However, Peter Windsor revealed one thing that Verstappen lacks compared to Michael Schumacher.
Windsor advised how Schumacher’s skills at building a team were way superior to Max’s. Explaining how the German put together the early 2000s Ferrari Team with Jean Todt and Ross Brawn, Windsor in his YouTube Video said “He played very much a managerial role as much as a driver role. And he had this great feel for how to handle people and get the best from Mechanics and Engineers. If any of them had any personal dramas, Michael [Schumacher] would get involved. He was very much a hands-on team player. And I’m not sure Max could do that”

The F1 Journalist went on to explain how he’s not sure Max Verstappen can acquire a feat like Schumacher if asked to build a team around him. Suggesting how Max hasn’t put together a team yet, Windsor said, “He’s gone into a team that’s perfectly set up by Christian Horner and he’s the perfect driver for that perfect team. But he hasn’t created his own team yet.” He concluded by advising one needs to keep all this in mind when comparing Verstappen to Schumacher.
Verstappen still has a long way to go in the sport. And for him to beat Michael Schumacher’s 91-win record and Lewis Hamilton’s 103-win record, the Dutchman would require a competitive car in the future. And do not forget, Lewis Hamilton is still active and can very well add to that tally.

Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher, both had a long streak of dominance in their career and that was when the majority of their race wins were stacked. Max Verstappen and Red Bull look like they’ll dominate till the major rule changes for 2026. However, there is no guarantee for the same as the cost cap and aerodynamic testing rules attempt at leveling the grid. Max Verstappen acknowledged that it will be hard to beat those records and one needs a front-running car for a very long time to beat it.
According to si.com, Max Verstappen when asked about beating Lewis Hamilton’s record said “Obviously you need to be in the right car for a long time and we don’t know if we have that. But it’s also not something I ever looked at. I’m just going with the flow and enjoying the moment.”
