Carlos Sainz signed a 2-year contract extension with Ferrari F1 yesterday. It was not very surprising news, as we expected the Spanish driver to extend his contract with the team. But when asked about the Sainz’s new contract extension, his teammate and championship leader Charles Leclerc replied hilariously.

Leclerc initially made fun of the news, and Carlos’s new contract, but he praised his teammate for his part in helping the team progress. Carlos impressed everyone with his initial speed and adaptability to the team when he first joined in 2021.

In his first year with the team, he even out-performed Leclerc in the championship. So it was a quite straightforward decision for both parties to continue till the 2024 season.

Charles Leclerc hilariously reacts to Carlos Sainz’s contract extension

Leclerc was happy that the Spanish driver decided to sign a new contract with the team. He mentioned that he and Sainz always give the same feedback to the team and work very well together.

“Oh, no (laughs). A disaster (laughs). No, I am very happy. Obviously Carlos is a great guy other than just a very good driver too. We have a very good relationship. We also work together very well. But I think what is the most important is that we also have the same feedback,” said Charles.

“We need the same things from the car and this is extremely important for the future of the team. And this has been the case for the last year and a half and I think we already have seen the benefits, so having Carlos in the team for next two years is great,” Leclerc added.

It is nice to see that both drivers get on so well despite being so competitive on the track. But the championship leader knows he needs to be wary of his teammate this season as he too has a championship-winning car.

But as for now, both drivers need to help their team with the constructor’s championship this season with their consistent performances during races. There is a high chance that Carlos would push Charles to the absolute limit by challenging him on the track in the near future. But let’s hope that they would be able to maintain the respect that they have shown for each other till now.
