Oliver Bearman is the hottest name on the grid right now, with his impressive debut definitely turning some heads. The driver that has been in a Haas back in 2023 for free practice, has now got the real taste of F1 by finishing his first Grand Prix with Ferrari. Coming in at P7, he overtook quite a few racers to finish at that position and the young driver is fierce.

During the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Bearman displayed some expert piloting as he managed to keep Ferrari in the lead over Mercedes. Scoring points in his first race with Scuderia Ferrari, he had some interesting takeaways about Haas’ speed.

During Oliver Bearman’s first race, he started at P11 right behind Lewis Hamilton. But he was soon to catch up to the 7-time world champion and put him behind. This was highly unexpected and came as a surprise to everyone. While trying to get past the Haas, Bearman said something interesting that caught the eye of many fans.

Talking about Nico Hülkenberg, the substitute driver spoke to the radio and said, Mate, he’s so slow. Hülkenberg, being from the team that he drove for, Bearman is finally understanding the difference in the cars. Coming from a spec car format, the constructors’ championship is a whole different game and there was no better way for Bearman to understand this than to drive one of the top cars of the season compared to the least successful car in 2023.

In the end, Hülkenberg finished 10th, which was a strong battle considering Aston Martin only managed to get one car into the points. Following Hülkenberg, was Albon and then Magnussen who came 12th in the race, 5 positions behind the rookie. Haas has not been doing quite well on the grid but the German driver has showcased some surprising moments.

Speaking of the possibility of seeing Bearman on the grid, Peter Windsor stated, “So it’s going to be I guess Haas Ferrari for him and yeah, that’s okay. He’d be racing on the back of this performance he knows that that drive is going to be paid for and guaranteed I would imagine.” Currently, Ferrari has no seats, and with Haas still not seeing results with their drivers, will this make way for Bearman to secure a seat in Formula 1?

Oliver Bearman: Haas’ new driver?

2024 is a big season for Haas as the team will complete their contract with both their drivers, Nico Hülkenberg and Kevin Magnussen. On one hand, Hülkenberg has only spent 2 seasons with the team, and on the other, Magnussen has been with Haas since 2017. Now it will come down to the new team principal Ayao Komatsu to decide if he wants to replace an existing driver for Bearman or continue with the same team.

That being said, this becomes a great chance for Oliver Bearman to spend time around the paddocks and gain valuable racing experience in case of emergencies, as we witnessed with Carlos Sainz. If things work out in his favor, the Ferrari substitute might find a permanent seat in Haas. Considering his performance in his first F1 race, do you think he impressed the teams enough to consider him as a viable option? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
