The main reason why Oliver Bearman got a chance to make an appearance on the F1 grid was due to Carlos Sainz Jr’s appendicitis surgery. Although this might feel like a big loss for Carlos Sainz, this gave the 18-year-old a chance to debut in the world of Formula One. This played out well for Ferrari as the young driver not only scored points but finished ahead of 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Although the surgery was a success and Sainz is recovering, it is still unsure if he will be participating at the Australian Grand Prix. Ferrari would like to wait until Sainz feels completely better and confident about going back into the highly physically demanding car. With that the big question comes up: will Ferrari call in Oliver Bearman to take the wheel again?’

Since Oliver Bearman had his first taste of a Formula One car with Haas in 2023, it looks like the sport keeps calling for him. After his performance with Ferrari, he has impressed the entire community, bringing in compliments from other team members and drivers. Beyond this, he was recently spotted on the tracks, piloting the F1-75, which is Ferrari’s car from 2022. This car helped the team beat Mercedes and put them at P2 for the Constructors’ Championship.

Bearman was spotted at the Fiorano circuit, which is Ferrari’s private racetrack for testing purposes.  This means that the team trusts him with an F1 car and wants him to get used to the speed and G’s that the drivers have to handle. As the young Briton has only had limited time to get used to F1, Ferrari is taking the 2-week gap to keep the driver prepared in case he is needed in the future. With his performance in the first race, he has become a trustworthy driver that Ferrari can tap into in case there is a requirement.

While the chances of him getting on the grid with Ferrari are slim to none as the team already has 2-star drivers for 2025 (Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton), he will be working towards impressing Ayao Komatsu for a seat in the Ferrari power unit using team, Haas. And to add to the rumors, Helmut Marko had something to say.

Helmut Marko adds to his compliments towards Oliver Bearman

The Ferrari situation is tough right now but it’s not due to the lack of drivers. As Sebastian Vettel said, “Everyone is a Ferrari fan” and currently there are 4 drivers who want the seat, out of which 2 of them already have it for 2025. Oliver Bearman comes up against Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton, and also Carlos Sainz Jr who has wanted to retain the seat but failed to do so.

But to this problem, Helmut Marko has a suggestion. The 80-year-old team director told Planetf1, “If I were Fred Vasseur, I would immediately find Bearman an F1 cockpit in another team. I don’t know, at Haas for example.”

Bringing up other names in Motorsport, he said, “Bearman–but also our Liam Lawson last season or Pedro Acosta’s debut in MotoGP–shows what real exceptional talent looks like.” With this, there will be a chance for Bearman to get on the grid, which will be a sight that the community is looking forward to.
