A prodigy, a champion born to win, the world was introduced to a superstar in the very first race of his career. Lewis Hamilton started his first race as a rookie and ended it as the future champion of F1. He earned a podium finish in the very first race of his career and announced to the world that he was special. Former McLaren Head of PR explained how Hamilton’s mentality was of a winner from a very young age.

Lewis won his first-ever F1 race in just the fifth race of his career. McLaren was a strong team with Fernando Alonso, who was the double-world champion partnering with Lewis. In a recent video, Matt Bishop, the then McLaren head of PR shared an instance about Hamilton’s winner mentality from such a young age.

Challenging for an F1 title in your very first season is a commendable feat. Hamilton not only challenged his teammate and reigning world champion Alonso, but also Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen. The Finnish racer would go on to win the championship by just a single point against the McLaren pair.

Bishop shared an incident involving Hamilton after he had won the Hungarian GP. He shared that everyone in the McLaren camp was relieved after Lewis won the race. However, that wasn’t Hamilton’s reaction.

Bishop said“Straight after the race, I remember speaking to Lewis, taking him to the media afterward, and he said, ‘Matt, do the sum, do the sum. If I win every single race from now on, can I still be champion?’ Do the sum now.”

Matt further added how that was a mark of a true winner. Similarly, Fernando Alonso was also very much like Lewis in such matters.

Lewis Hamilton insists that F1 is still his top priority

The seven-time championship winner Lewis Hamilton has been busy investing his money when he is not racing. The Mercedes star recently bought the three-time NFL winners Denver Broncos. Additionally, he also launched his own production line named Dawn Apollo. However, the 103 race winner has cleared any doubts about F1 not being his topmost priority.

Hamilton said, “It is not that they [other projects] are less important. My priority is with my job here with the team. When you are racing on a weekend, there is time in between to do the work there and the work with Mission 44 for example.”

He further said, “I am still able to steer the ship on that. I have a great group of people who are leading and doing what I have asked for and pushing it in the right direction.”

Hamilton also explains how he has said no to many projects recently. Furthermore, the Mercedes driver claimed that the most important thing was to balance everything and not let it distract him.
