Max Verstappen won his sixth race in the 2022 season at the Canadian Grand Prix. The world champion now leads the title race by 46 points over his teammate and by 49 points over Charles Leclerc. But the Ferrari driver is confident that he can still bounce back in the championship.

Leclerc started the race in Canada in P19 after taking engine penalties, but clawed his way back to P5. Amid all this, he believes they can challenge for the title and will go for the win in Silverstone.

“I still believe in it. 49 points are two races. Now we will go to Silverstone to win. We will recover from this disadvantage, we will succeed. I can’t be satisfied with fifth place, but in the end, we couldn’t do much more with what happened to us. So that’s okay,” said Leclerc in his interview with Sky Sports. [Translated by Google]

After the first three races, the Ferrari driver was leading the championship by over 40 points. But a string of poor reliability has set back his title challenge. Yet Red Bull too had some reliability gremlins in Montreal as Perez retired quite early in the race.

Charles Leclerc hopes he can make a title charge in Silvertone

The Monegasque driver pointed out that early in the season it was Red Bull who were struggling from the reliability issues. There is no reason that a couple of retirements for Verstappen will see him losing his lead.

“We can see that obviously also Red Bull had a few problems today, so yeah, definitely reliability is going to be a big thing. But that’s what we need whenever we have more difficult weekends like this weekend, just to go and take some good points and that’s what we did today.”
