‘Out of Luck’ Fernando Alonso Keeps El Plan Alive Despite Recent F1 Disappointments

It has been a rough start to the 2022 season for Fernando Alonso. The Spanish driver has looked competitive and quick in all 4 races of the season as compared to his teammate Esteban Ocon on paper. But the 2 times world champion has had horrid luck, which has made it impossible for him to showcase his true pace in the races.
In at least 3 races out of 4, this season he has been the standout driver on the grid before something unfortunate has happened to him. He was looking in an excellent position in Australia qualifying before he crashed out in Q3.

Once again, he had impressed everyone with his performance in Imola qualifying as he finished by P5. But in both the Sprint race and the main race, he failed to make an impact and had to retire from the main race after damage to his sidepods. Amidst the recent run of form, Alonso commented on his future in the sport.

The Alpine driver was a victim of a spinning Mick Schumacher, who slid into the side of his car in the first lap of the Sunday race. From then on, the Spanish driver could continue for a couple more laps before ending his race after his sidepods flew away.
Talking about the crash, Fernando said, “I feel out of luck, everyone will agree. Reliability problems, what happened in qualifying in Australia, today at the start everyone touched Nothing happens to anyone anymore, cars are unbreakable but ours is destroyed by a small touch with Mick…”

Fernando was understandably gloomy after the race and he provided a cryptic response to his future in Formula One.
“Because I feel better than the others. See I’m not good at the starts anymore or setting up the car, or the other side of the garage is a second faster than me and I can’t get close to those times… I’ll be the first to raise my hand and admit I’ve Its time to think about something else. But for now, it’s just the opposite. I love racing,” Fernando concluded.

Although we are all aware that his time in Formula One may be coming to a close sooner rather than later, we would like to see him go out on his own terms. It is an important couple of races coming up for the 2-time champion as it might decide what turn his career takes from thereon.
