Well, it looks like the controversy surrounding the 2021 season finale is not over yet. Many Lewis Hamilton fans have signed a petition to overturn the championship decision.

Max Verstappen passed Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of the season to become the world champion in 2021. But the safety car situation that led to the move was very controversial. The race director allowed only the cars in between the two title rivals to overtake the safety car, which meant Verstappen was right behind Lewis on the last lap.

According to change.org, Hamilton fans have got over 50k signatures in the petition demanding the reversal of the results. Although it is highly unlikely that the result will change, the petition is still gathering support.

“We are all wavering in emotions and Lewis most of all. He won the World Championship until the last lap, and then everything is taken away from you from one second [to the next]. Of course, you lose faith because you can’t understand what has just happened. The silence is there, of course, because he simply lacks words as well.” said Wolff on Hamilton’s silence after the season finale.
